From Allies To Citizens- The Story of Polish Armed Forces after WW2

This presentation will examine the Polish Armed Forces’ transition from wartime service to civilian life after WW2 in the Great Britain. “From Allies to Citizens” Join us on 13 June 2026, 3:00–4:00 pm, at Hornby Library, Central Library, for a presentation exploring the experiences of members of the Polish Armed Forces and Polish refugees who made new lives in Britain after the Second World War. Focusing on the Polish Resettlement Corps and the Polish Resettlement Act of 1947, the talk will examine the transition from wartime service to civilian life, including the role of Polish Resettlement Camps and the Polish Hospital. Many who lived through these events rarely spoke of their experiences. This presentation offers an insight into those often hidden and unspoken stories, honouring a generation whose courage, resilience and contribution helped shape post-war Britain. This presentation is delivered by Merseyside Polonia as part of Polish Heritage Days celebrations across the United Kingdom. The event is open to all who enjoy community history, have Polish ancestory and would like to learn more about untold stories of the previous generation.
