Mourning across Borders: Britain, Germany and the Enemy War Dead’

During the two world wars, it was not just British and Allied servicemen who were killed in conflict; the enemy lost their lives too. In this talk, Tim Grady (author of: Burying the Enemy) discusses the history of German civilians and soldiers who died on the British home front in twentieth century conflict. He will focus in particular on examples of those buried in Liverpool and the wider region. These examples will reveal a lesser-known history of shared wartime loss and post-war commemoration.

Dante Alighieri Society Garden Party

The aim of the Dante Alighieri Society is to foster the Italian language and culture in the world, promoting an interest in Italian civilisation, language and culture. We would like to welcome everyone to our Garden Party, where a few members from our book club/drama group will be reading poems and literature passages in Italian (English translation provided). We will be welcoming families with children too for a family Gnocchi-Making Workshop, where kids would learn the art of crafting traditional Italian gnocchi in a lively, hands-on setting. Held in Italian, the workshop offers a fun way for bilingual families and language learners to engage with Italian culture. And of course there will be amazing Italian homemade cakes for everyone and the opportunity to gather and have fun, while enjoying the beautiful outside space and-hopefully-the sun 🙂
