ABBENTU – Music and roots that dance again, from South Italy to Liverpool

Here’s an event you will feel curious about, excited for, and a bit enchanted by!! Join us in this unique event where the Abbentu group from Calabria will be delivering live performance and workshops. ‘Abbentu’ is a word echoing from south Italian dialects, carrying a dual meaning: waiting and truce. With Abbentu, tradition takes on voice and movement: every note is an ancestral call, every rhythm an invitation to dance, every performance a meeting point between memory and modernity. The repertoire ranges from pizziche, to tammuriate and tarantelle, bringing Southern heritage into a new, accessible, and emotionally rich dimension. The Abbentu project isn’t just a dance; it’s a story, a rhythm, a cultural spark! Step into Southern Italy for an afternoon, experience the dance that once cured a spider bite and a whirlwind of rhythm, passion, and tradition! Opportunity to join the workshops or just watch the performance. No experience needed — only enthusiasm! 9th May 2026 4 to 9 pm £10 per person – free for children under 16
